KHOST CITY: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) promised helping the Afghan government to develop the Sheikh Zayed University in the southeastern province of Khost.
UAE Embassy official Ahmed Altimji told a gathering at the university they wanted to resolve all technical problems of the institution to improve its education standards. The UAE had long been helping needy countries including Afghanistan, he said.
“In addition to other forms of support for Afghanistan, we want to provide continued assistance to the Sheikh Zayed University and maintain good relations with the Afghan government,” the official added.
While acknowledging the vital role the UAE assistance has played in developing the university, Khost Governor Hukam Khan Habibi asked the embassy officials to help upgrade it to international standards.
“Equipped lab, library, teachers’ capacity development, classrooms and other facilities need immediate attention,” the governor explained, hoping the UAE would provide the requisite support.
