Binodh De Silva named International Mentor of the Year

SAN FRANSISCO. Obtaining a highest recognition which accepted by the people all over the world will be a rare honor for any person.
Binodh De Silva of Sri Lanka, Head of Analytical and Bioanalytical Operations, Research and Development at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Sunnyvale, California is one of such individuals and she has been named International Mentor of the Year 2015 by Mentor Resources, the global mentoring authority.
Mentor Resources is a global mentoring organization serving clients in 24 countries whose mission is to build, enhance and expand organizational Intelligence through mentoring resulting in engaged workplaces that retain high-performing workers, improve knowledge sharing thus increasing shareholder value.
International Mentor of the Year Award honors mentors around the globe who go above and beyond to enhance the academic and business lives of those around them. Mentors are nominated for demonstrating the qualities such as Strong commitment to helping others grow professionally and personally, Willingness to share their experiences and knowledge, Climate that supports trust, openness, candor, and rapport, Feedback that is honest, objective and constructive together with Professional or academic guidance and help in expanding the mentee’s networks.
The esteemed International Mentor of the Year Award has been given to Binodh DeSilva for her dedication to mentoring. This award recognizes mentors who demonstrate strong commitment to helping others grow professionally and personally.
“I am truly honored to receive this award. It means so much to be able to give back to the profession I love, and I’m motivated by the numerous mentors who have supported me throughout my career,” Ms. DeSilva said.
She also the President-elect of American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
“As President-elect of AAPS, one of my priorities is to encourage professionals to give back to the community, by providing their unique, useful insights to help develop those in their early careers into scientific leaders.” she added.
Dr. Binodh DeSilva is an Old Girl of Visakha Vidyalaya in Colombo and a graduate of the University of Colombo. She received her doctorate in Chemistry from University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
Since joining Bristol-Myers Squibb five years ago, DeSilva has mentored 10 young professionals across the organization. She also mentors post-doctoral and graduate students through the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
Ms. DeSilva’s dedication to mentoring exemplifies the qualities of this annual award, which recognizes mentors who go above and beyond to make a difference in the professional and academic lives of others. Candidates for this honor are nominated by peers or mentees, and must demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting the personal and professional growth of their mentees .
